College Of Lake County: CLC staff member wins award for work at small business
Jul 19, 2021
The State Star Award is presented to someone who demonstrates exemplary performance, makes a significant contribution to their SBDC program, and shows a strong commitment to helping small businesses grow.
Kim, International Trade Specialist at Illinois SBDC / ITC, was selected for her “continuous and outstanding performance and excellent work provided to customers, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and her work with the US Export-Import (EXIM) Bank REPP Initiative and collaboration with the US SBA, “according to Mark Petrilli, director of the state SBDC.
“I feel so humbled and honored to be recognized as the recipient of the State Star Award,” Kim said. “I want to thank my team members for their support. I don’t know how to thank you enough for this award.”
Kim will be recognized at the IESBGA Annual Conference in August and at the ASBDC Annual Conference in September.
“He’s a star on many levels,” said Mitch Bienvenue, director of the SBDC / ITC at CLC. “He is very good at helping businesses that are new to exporting and helping them get started and also helping those who want to expand their exports.”
The fact that an Illinois SBDC / ITC member at the CLC wins an award of this caliber builds on the centre’s already excellent reputation.
“It shows that we are helping companies do business,” Bienvenue said. “It strengthens our credibility by showing that we are getting results. You are not recognized for something like this without a great contribution.”
Kim said Lake County has a lot of companies with export potential, and companies who find out what SBDC / ITC has to offer can help them with this process.
“This award will bring confidence and credibility to small businesses in Lake County who can access our services,” said Kim. “It will make them more aware of our services so that we can help them with their export opportunities. Some companies don’t know what we can do, and it will give us visibility.”
The SBDC / ITC provides confidential and free business advice and interactive workshops at low cost and is funded in part by a cooperative agreement with the US Small Business Administration (SBA), Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunities (ILDCEO) and Lake County College.
