Completion of 700 MW Zuguru plant by December, FG orders subcontractors
The federal government has asked the contractors managing the 700 megawatt Zungeru hydroelectric project to ensure completion of the facility by December 28, 2021.
Energy Minister Abubakar Aliyu gave the directive in Abuja while welcoming the contractors, MM. CNEEC-Sinohydro Consortium, for the engineering, procurement and construction of the project.
He assured CNEEC-Sinohydro of the federal government’s determination to overcome the challenges it faces in the performance of its duties.
Aliyu, in a statement from the Federal Energy Ministry on Friday, said the challenges relate to security, COVID-19, cost adjustment and the delay in releasing funds by the Exim Bank of China. .
He also briefed entrepreneurs on the efforts of his ministry, through the Federal Ministry of Finance, to resolve the issue of opening an escrow account in a commercial bank prescribed in the subsidiary loan agreement with Exim. Bank of China.
“While expressing his satisfaction with the presentation made by the entrepreneurs, the Minister encouraged them to respect the deadline of December 28, 2021 for the completion of the project,” the statement said.
Aliyu said the government will tackle any constraints that may hinder the completion of the project.
