President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revealed that the collapsed Komenda sugar factory will be reactivated in February next year.
According to him, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen, is working tirelessly to ensure that there are raw materials available to run the plant.
He accused the previous government of failing to properly manage the plant, leading to its collapse.
Speaking on PeaceFM’s Kokrokroo show monitored by GhanaWeb on Thursday October 21, 2021, President Akufo-Addo said: for the factory⦠God willing, by February of next year we would have operates the Komenda sugar factory. This is the goal we have.
“The initial planning never properly integrated the supplies of raw materials into the project … Arrangements were made to supply the factory with raw materials,” he added.
The $ 35 million Komenda Sugar factory, built from a facility at India’s Exim bank, has not been in operation since it went into operation in 2016.
The collapse was due to technical challenges and setbacks.
