New York Jets S Marcus Maye DUI court hearing postponed until March
Marcus Maye has a new hearing for his February 2021 DUI arrest scheduled for March 9, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
The hearing will take place eight days before the start of the 2022 league year on March 16, when free agency officially begin. There is a two-day window from March 14-16 during which teams and players can negotiate deals before being announced. Maye is one of 28 pending Jets free agents who could hit the open market this offseason.
Maye was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, misdemeanor DUI/property damage, and leaving the scene of an accident in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on February 22, 2021. Six weeks later, police have arrested Maye for speeding and driving with a suspended license in Orlando, Florida, according to NorthJersey.com.
Maye reportedly wouldn’t reveal what happened to the Jets, a decision that could impact any disciplinary action the NFL chooses to take against safety.
The Jets have not committed to Maye’s future with the team. Joe Douglas didn’t say much during his season-ending press conference. The safety himself said he wanted to return to the Jets, even though it was before his season-ending Achilles injury.
Maye has regressed a bit in 2021 after signing a $10.6 million franchise tag with the Jets. He finished the year on injured reserve after tearing his Achilles tendon in Week 9. Maye finished the season with 46 combined tackles, one sack and two passes defended in six games.
