The Thilamale Bridge project will be awarded by the end of the month
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said the government will finalize a business to which the Thilamale Bridge project will be awarded within the next two weeks.
Speaking to reporters at a news conference that was broadcast live Tuesday afternoon from the president’s office, President Solih said the bidding process was complete and the evaluation process was also finished. The project will be awarded to a company before the end of the month, said the president.
The president said that due to the current lockdown of Delhi and Mumbai in India, it was difficult to hold meetings with the EXIM Bank of India. Indian bank EXIM, which supports the project, has prequalified four Indian companies for the tender announced by the Maldives Ministry of Finance. According to the Indian government, the four companies are experienced companies that have the technical expertise required for the project, as well as the financial capacity to undertake such a project.
The survey work for the project was carried out by a Dutch company for US $ 15 million. Dutch company Fugro drilled 25 boreholes in the seabed and 25 boreholes on land as part of the investigation.
India has agreed to provide loan assistance of US $ 400 million for the bridge project. While the loan agreement was signed, US $ 100 million was given in the form of grants by India and will be used for the project. The project is expected to be completed within two years, India said.
